The first race was organised by the "Petit Journal" newspaper way back in 1891. The newspaper's owner Pierre Giffard was keen to show as many people as possible how awesome the bicycle was. Although the large majority of the over 200 entrants rode bicycles, there were actually 10 tricycles and two tandems! The winner of the first race rode without sleeping for 71 hours 22 minutes.
We at Sigr first heard about Daniele's and Elena's epic plans to conquer the world by bike earlier in 2018. They are two normal people who met by chance and developed a shared love of cycling. They knew they wanted to travel, so what better way to do it than by bike. In 2014 they set off from Bologna in Italy and didn't look back.
Being up for the challenge of cycling more, is good. Because everywhere is biking distance right? But taking the leap, of cycling through a whole country, is something that requires more than a good slogan. Get inspired by Emil's determination and maybe you'll be doing something similar soon!
