Cycling For The Planet - POW Sweden Saddles Up!
Snow, ice and bikes are usually not something that go together well. In fact winter keeps most cyclists off the roads due to the increased risk of slips and slides while riding.
But despite the downsides of winter as a cyclist, there is no denying that if winter disappeared, it would not be good for the planet. Not upsetting the balance more than we already have should really be high up on the to do list of mankind.
"Protect Our Winters" is a growing global group of concerned citizens of earth who are raising awareness in any way they can, who hope to inspire people to make small changes in their lives which can positively contribute to reducing human impact on the climate.
WE EMBRACE IMPERFECT ADVOCACY
They are are pragmatic in their activism. They realise that some action is better than no action and that we all can make a difference no matter how small.
Their current focus is encouraging sustainable travel methods. Planes, cars and trucks are one of the largest contributors to global warming on the planet (see infographic below for 2019 statistics in Europe courtesy of europa.eu), so anything we can do to reduce that enormous impact is positive.
Elephant?
We're sure that you've also sensed that beautiful lycra clad "elephant in the room" that is cycling. Cycling is just about the most low-impact and sustainable method of transport apart from walking. So what better thing to do to raise awareness than cycling?
