Women's Tour de France Back in 2022 After 33 Years!

Wow. Women finally get their own Tour de France!

Although the 2022 women's race is only 8 stages (1029 km) compared to the men's 21 (3328 km), we must give a huge high-five to Marion Rousse (Women's Tour Director) and Christian Prudhomme (Men's Tour Director) who have done their very best to restart the women's race, in a hopefully sustainable way, that "will still exist in a hundred years" to quote the Christian himself.

The women's race will start at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on July 24, 2022 and will finish July 31 at the top of the Super Planche des Belles Filles climb in Lure for a total distance of 1029 km.

BUT.

According to Prudhomme, the reason why women don't get to ride the same route as the men, which would be the REAL breakthrough, is down to lack of financing. We don't buy this excuse. If we look to Norway's national football teams as an example. There, the sponsors for both the men's and women's teams put all their money into a pot and simply divide it in two. This way, both teams get equal financing. The salary and bonuses are the same. Usually the simplest solution is the best solution. Keep It Simple Stupid or KISS! 😘

Despite only being part of the way there, we are still so pleased that women finally have a Tour de France to race in and hope that this newly planted seed will grow into a fertile forest of possibility for women's cycling.

The Swedish Tour or Sverigeloppet as we call it, already welcomes both men and women. To say the organisers of Sverigeloppet are thrilled about this news from France is an understatement.

Vive La France!
