Why do you need a base layer? Well, apart from looking much cooler than a t-shirt, a functional base layer is great for a couple of reasons.

1. Use it for extra insulation under a jersey when it's slightly too cold for just a jersey but not cool enough for a jacket.

2. Wear a base layer on its own when training inside your garage or at a gym. Bare chests are fine, but a base layer is a bit more civilised :) It also controls your sweat which can improve focus. The fabric has a sweat-wicking effect which aids cooling.

Our base layers have a fairly opaque front panel and a mesh rear. The mesh rear will insulate when under a jersey, by trapping air, but will aid cooling well worn on it's own, by allowing air heat to escape the body more easily.
